Group Therapy

What is Group Therapy and How Does it Help?
The group size is small for the same reason that business organizations often keep work groups small – studies show there is more synergy in smaller groups. As a group, they find solutions they would otherwise miss.
Groups are either Open or Closed. By open, we mean that the group is ongoing and new members may join at any point. By close, the group is designed to follow a structured program from start to finish. For consideration of all, a closed group may only be joined at the start.
In fact, there are five powerful benefits of group therapy. In group therapy, each participant:
- Learns they are not alone
- Receives much needed support from others (and gives support)
- Is able to see their own feelings more clearly through the experiences of others.
- Learns to relate better to others and self.
- Enjoys a safe social environment for exploring difficult feelings and issues.
These benefits cannot be understated. Humans are social creatures. While individual therapy can help each of us better understand our internal motivations, only group therapy can provide some with the social acceptance they need to heal.
